RECOMMENDED ACTION: Motion to accept the bids for the replacement of the
condenser at the Rosemount Arena and to award the project to the low bidder Rink Tec in
the amount of $77,649.65.
ISSUE
The replacement of the condenser in the Rosemount Arena is part of the City’s 2018 Capital Improvement
Plan (CIP). The existing condenser is the original unit that was installed when the building was constructed
in 1993. The life expectancy of a condenser with proper care is 20 - 25 years.
Staff recently solicited bids for the replacement of the condenser. The request that staff made to
contractors bidding the project was to provide the City with a bid for a new condenser unit that would
work with the City’s current refrigeration system (R-22) and also an ammonia based system.
Staff received the bids listed below:
Contractor Bid Price
Rink Tec $ 77,649.65
Cool Air Mechanical $ 78,100.00
Gartner Refrigeration $ 89,882.00
Should the condenser replacement be approved, staff plans to have this work completed in early May of
2018 when the ice is taken out of the area.
SUMMARY
Staff would like for the City Council to consider accepting the bids for the condenser replacement project
at the Rosemount Arena and awarding a contract to the low bidder Rink Tec in the amount of $77,649.65.
