ISSUE
Last year was the first year of the City’s Home and Business Expo. We filled the gym at the Community
Center with vendors which was a good first year. This year we will focus more on marketing the event to
draw in residents. We have chosen March 16 for the Expo date, which will allow the City to use the gym,
classrooms and banquet hall if desired. We have moved the date away from the Master Gardeners event as
last year parking at the Community Center was a problem. We will continue to have some food trucks and
kids crafts, and are exploring having a speaker for the adults in attendance. We are considering
restructuring the sponsorship programs since most groups wanted to be the gold sponsor rather than the
lower category. Fees for exhibiting will also be re-evaluated.
Attached is the Expo calendar staff has developed. The sheet also indicates some marketing ideas. We
would start by advertising that the City is looking for exhibitors in mid-fall, although would want to
provide information at the Council booth during Leprechaun Days. We again plan to offer an early bird
discount, and will contact all local businesses and those that were exhibitors last year first with the mailer
in October. After that, staff would be looking to attract businesses from outside of Rosemount also.
There was some discussion after the Expo about marketing the event to the public. Several marketing
ideas are listed and staff would welcome a discussion about that topic in terms of timing and other ideas.
