ATTACHMENTS: Resolution APPROVED BY: LJM RECOMMENDED ACTION: Motion to approve the attached resolution appointing additional deputy city clerks for the purposes of serving on the absentee ballot board and administering the 2018 elections. SUMMARY On April 17, 2018, City Council approved a resolution appointing deputy city clerks for the purposes of serving on the absentee ballot board and administering the 2018 elections. Staff is recommending that additional names be added to the list to assist in the election process this year. Minnesota Statute 203B.121 allows for deputy city clerks to be members of the Absentee Ballot Board if they have had training in processing and counting of absentee ballots. In anticipation of high numbers of absentee ballots due to the 2014 election law change that allows for “no excuse” absentee voting, staff recommends the following city employees and/or positions be appointed deputy city clerks for the duration of the election season; • Emmy Foster, Assistant City Administrator • Jackie Kaderlik, HR Coordinator • Julie Kish, Temporary Elections Assistant • Jennie Loeffler, Payroll Clerk • Roxie Maxa, Utility Billing Clerk • Kennedy McCarthy, Temporary Elections Assistant • Denise Werner, Utility Billing Clerk RECOMMENDATION Motion to approve the attached resolution appointing additional deputy city clerks for the purposes of serving on the absentee ballot board and administering the 2018 elections. CITY OF ROSEMOUNT DAKOTA COUNTY, MINNESOTA RESOLUTION 2018 - A RESOLUTION APPOINTING DEPUTY CITY CLERKS FOR THE PURPOSE OF ADMINISTERING ELECTIONS WHERAS, Minn. Stat. 203B.05 allows counties to designate municipalities to administer absentee balloting; and WHEREAS, Dakota County has designated the City of Rosemount to administer absentee ballots for Rosemount voters; and WHEREAS, Minnesota Statute 203B.121 requires the governing body of each municipality with responsibility to accept and reject absentee ballots to establish a ballot board. WHEREAS, Minnesota Statute 203B.121 allows for deputy city clerks trained in the processing and counting of absentee ballots to serve on the absentee ballot board. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Rosemount, Minnesota, that a.) The appointment of the following people and/or positions to deputy city clerk is approved; • Emmy Foster, Assistant City Administrator • Jackie Kaderlik, HR Coordinator • Julie Kish, Temporary Elections Assistant • Jennie Loeffler, Payroll Clerk • Roxie Maxa, Utility Billing Clerk • Kennedy McCarthy, Temporary Elections Assistant • Denise Werner, Utility Billing Clerk b.) Said deputy city clerks are hereby appointed to the absentee ballot board, and c.) These appointments shall expire on November 9, 2018. ADOPTED this 17th day of July, 2018. William H.
