ISSUE
At the last meeting, staff updated the Port Authority on the status of the sale of the Canada Circle site. As
mentioned there were some concerns by the buyer that there may be costly contamination issues affecting
development of the site. At that time, discussions centered around trying to expeditiously understand if
there is any contamination on the site and what remediation would be needed if any. There was some
belief that costs for the investigation would be split between the City and buyer. Since that time the buyer’s
attorney indicated they would not pay any investigation costs and therefore the City has initiated the work
with our consultants. A Phase II will be conducted and the City has applied to the brown field program
through DEED. The Phase II will take some time to complete in a final form, however, it is hoped that
information can be made available that will allow decisions to be made about sale and development timing.
On the City Council meeting agenda tonight, the Council will be asked to give final planning approvals to
the project. The site plan has been modified slightly; the building has been shifted east, toward Hwy 3. A
copy of the plan is provided for your information.
