RECOMMENDED ACTION: Motion to Accept a Minnesota Department of Health Grant
Agreement Extension for Well 1 & 2 Sealing, City Project 2018-04.
BACKGROUND
At their November 21, 2017 meeting, City Council passed a resolution accepting a grant from the
Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) for sealing wells 1 and 2 in the parking lot of Terry’s Hardware.
The original agreement had a completion date of October 31, 2018. Staff requested and MDH approved
an extension to December 31, 2018 and forwarded an updated agreement. No other changes were
requested and this project is on track to be completed by the end of the year.
Progress on this project was slower than expected due to the difficulty in finding records regarding the
actual locations of the wells. Since they have been located, several steps have been undertaken in moving
this project forward. A summary of the work is shown in the table below.
For each of the two completed phases three quotes were solicited and the lowest quote was accepted.
This work has been included in the 2018 Capital Improvement Plan with $150,000 to come from the
Water Utility Fund to be used as the 50% matching portion of the grant.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends Council accept the Minnesota Department of Health Public Grant Agreement
Extension for Well 1 & 2 Sealing.
