Read and his crew used pavers to build hard surfaced tee pads on the 7`h, 9`h, and 16`h tees. These hard surfaced pads are a real convenience to the disc golfers and much preferred to the bare ground/hard packed dirt that made up the tee areas before. These pads are appreciated even more than usual this year when everything is so wet and muddy. With the completion of Reads project, 11 of the 18 tees at the disc course have been improved. Playground Removal - The playground at Schwarz Pond Park was removed on October 9. Staff from Kids Around the World came up from Rockford, Illinois and worked with a group of retired volunteers from the Wayzata Free Church. Even though it was a cold, rainy day, the crew made quick work of disassembling the play structure. City staff helped by pulling all the posts out of the ground with a backhoe. As quickly as our staff pulled the posts the volunteers cut the posts off their footings and loaded the posts onto their truck. Kids Around the World removes still usable playgrounds from all around the country, refurbishes them, ships them to Third World countries and reassembles them there, providing play opportunity to kids that might otherwise never see a playground of this kind. While it is yet to be determined, there is a good chance that the Schwarz Pond Park playground might end up in Haiti. Fall Clean Up - Rosemount's annual Fall Clean-up was held on Saturday, October 6 at the Public Works Facility. The Clean-up was another success and 282 vehicles came through the site that day. This is 66 more vehicles than came through the site at last year's fall clean-up and 74 more than in 2016. The event was staffed by a team of City employees as well as a crew of workers/drivers from Dick's Sanitation and from J.R.'s Advanced Recyclers. Winter/Spring Brochure - The Parks and Recreation Department has been working with Riechmann Pederson Design Inc. to revamp and redesign our Parks and Recreation Activities and Information Brochure. This is the same designer used by Alan Cox for various City publications so we are excited to release a new updated version of the publication. Using the same designer will offer important consistency throughout all City publications. The overall design will provide an updated, cohesive look but maintain past features such as its size. The Winter/Early Spring Activities and Information Brochure will hit mailboxes the week of December 3 and cover events and activities thru Mid -March. Refurbished Playground Equipment - Attached are two photos, one is of the playground equipment when located at Connemara Park and the other is of some of the of the same equipment in Santiago, Dominican Republic at St. Maria School. Horseshoe Lake Park — The park development is moving along as the grading has been complete, the trails are installed, the playground has been installed, landscaping is done and the dock should be installed on Monday, November 19. The sun shelter should also be installed during the week of November 19.
