HomeMy WebLinkAboutFire Chief History from Scott Aker 04-05Fire Chief Scott Aker finished checking on the history of Rosemount’s first fire chief. From the information he found, it doesn’t sound like it’s going to be possible to come up with a name for the first fire chief. In the 1930’s, a couple of men organized, bought a truck on their own, and fought fires. In the 1940’s, they re-organized, had their own trucks, and billed the city for gas and oil. They did have a chief at that time, but we don’t know who it was for sure. In the 1950’s, they reorganized again and became part of the city. No one knows who was the first chief at that time. Later in the 1950’s they started the relief???? association. Those are the oldest records we have, but there’s nothing in them that refers to a fire chief. If we picked one of these dates and actually found a chief, Chief Aker felt that someone would turn up and say that our information wasn’t official, or that their grandfather or father was a chief before that. Based on this information, the fire chief idea is probably not going to work. Chief Aker suggested the following possible options: Fire Fighter Park, Public Safety Park, PS (for public safety) Park, or Chief Park.
