BACKGROUND
Rosemount’s Chief of Police, Mitchell Scott, submitted his retirement notice to the City Administrator
earlier this month.
Chief Scott was appointed in July 2014. In his time leading the Rosemount Department, he worked on
several initiatives to investigate reported crimes and to prevent other violations. He also promoted a focus
on increased community interaction with the Police Department and on modernization of internal
processes. Chief Scott helped lead an analysis of the need for new municipal facilities to respond to
Rosemount’s growth. The Chief also supervised efforts to update badges and other symbols of the
Department to emphasize its professionalism and service to the community, and to create a culture of
family at a challenging time nationwide in the profession.
During his tenure, Rosemount was cited in several rankings as one of the safest communities in
Minnesota. In the National Community Survey conducted among Rosemount residents last summer, 92
percent of respondents graded police service in the City as excellent or good, a level higher than national
benchmarks for satisfaction with law enforcement.
The Chief’s final day with the Department will be February 28. Following his retirement from public
service, he will join a firm in the private sector in Dakota County.
Commander Mikael Dahlstrom will serve as Interim Police Chief.
