ATTACHMENTS: Visit List, Business List APPROVED BY: LJM RECOMMENDED ACTION: Discussion DISCUSSION The Port Authority has indicated that they would like to continue with the Business Visit Program. Staff has had difficulty recruiting businesses to visit. It has been particularly difficult as we reach out to businesses to come to the Business Appreciation Lunch and the Expo. Prior to that, we also received little feedback during the holiday season. Similar to other items on the agenda, staff is asking if Port Members can try and schedule some visits with business owners where you already have a relationship. I have included a list of businesses in the packet. Earlier this year Anthony in our office went around the City and itemized all businesses. If you know of a business not listed, please bring it to our attention as we’d like to have a full listing. This list will unfortunately not include home-based businesses but rather businesses that are located out in the community. Earlier this month I did make contact with CF Industries who would be happy to conduct a business visit. I know some of the more senior members of the Port Authority have attended previous open houses, but at least the two new Council members may want to participate. Scott Dohmen of CF Industries did not provide a specific time, rather asking I provide a few options so he could see what works with their schedule. It may also be a good time to get a tour of Flint Hills on the calendar. Don Kern, of FHR has always offered a site tour for new members of the Port Authority and City Council. Bring your calendars to the meeting and we can try and come up with a few options. They do not envision Sunbelt as a direct competitor, as Sunbelt focuses mostly on large rentals (15 lifts at a time), so they compliment each other well. The City has been a good partner and he shared no issues with our services. Shared info on Open to Business program, PIE, and the Expo. No follow up items needed. Business Park Geometrix Proto Labs Met with Brian Turner, John Ikhami, and Marcel Allen regarding the Proto Labs Rosemount facility. They indicated that they do mold injection here in Rosemount and they are very busy and the business continues to grow. The Company has purchased other companies in the Country and they provide more services than before. They indicated that it is sometimes hard to attract employees to the facility and they reviewed their wage and benefits package. They use employment firms but also conduct employee attraction initiatives in house. They draw from a wide area and transit and lower cost housing in Rosemount would assist them in helping with attracting employees. Staff forwarded information regarding the workforce investment board and mentioned some of the new more affordable housing in town.
