RECOMMENDED ACTION: Motion to Approve the Reappointment of Richard Schroeder
as Fire Chief for a Period of Three Years.
BACKGROUND
This is a recommendation to appoint Richard Schroeder to the position of Fire Chief for another three
years. His current term is expiring at the end of March, and according to Fire Department policy, the Fire
Chief is to be selected from applicants meeting the minimum qualifications for the position. He was the
sole applicant for the Chief appointment in this process.
In his application materials, Chief Schroeder stated “As I approach the completion of my sixth year as Fire
Chief, I respect and value the opportunity to lead such a great group of people. I am excited at the chance
to continue on with another term as Fire Chief. Not only to shape and mold the staff of the department,
but more importantly to protect the citizens of this great community.”
In addition to serving as the Fire Chief for the past six years, Chief Schroeder has been a member of the
department for 21 years. Administrator Martin completed an annual performance evaluation of Chief
Schroeder last year, and staff is pleased with his performance and the direction he is taking the
Department. He is well qualified to continue in the position and it is thereby recommended that his
assignment to the position of Fire Chief be confirmed by the Council.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that Council approve the reappointment of Richard Schroder as Fire Chief for a period
of three years.
