Indoor Recreation Facilities Needs Assessment and Feasibility Study EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Special City Council Work Session Meeting: April 23, 2019 AGENDA ITEM: Indoor Recreation Facilities Needs Assessment and Feasibility Study AGENDA SECTION: Discussion PREPARED BY: Dan Schultz, Parks and Recreation Director AGENDA NO. 2.a. ATTACHMENTS: None APPROVED BY: LJM RECOMMENDED ACTION: None Discussion only. ISSUE The 292 Design Group and staff have been working on the Needs Assessment and Feasibility Study for Indoor Recreation Facilities for the past few months. The 292 Design Group would like to provide an update to the City Council about the work that has been completed. This is an important stage in our work as we will be discussing facility floor plans, construction costs, operating budgets, site locations and next steps. A majority of this information will be shared with the City Council at the special work session meeting in a power point presentation that has been prepared by the 292 Design Group. There will be a draft floorplan sent out to the City Council on Monday, April 22. BACKGROUND In 2018, the City Council discussed a Request for Proposal (RFP) that was going to be sent out asking architectural firms to conduct a Needs Assessment and Feasibility Study for Indoor Recreation Facilities. The RFP was sent out to twelve firms with some being local and others from outstate. The City received a total of six proposals. Staff reviewed and scored the proposals and selected three firms to interview. The firms that were interviewed included: JLG, 292 Design Group and Leo A Daly. All three firms did well with the interview. Staff then sent the proposals of the three groups to the City Council for review and feedback. After staff had reviewed the proposals, interviewed three firms and considered the feedback received from the City Council, staff is recommending that the City contract with 292 Design Group to conduct the Needs Assessment and Feasibility Study for Indoor Recreation Facilities. A major component of this project is a thorough public engagement process with stakeholders and the general public.
