Commendation for Attainment of Eagle Scout Rank EXECUTIVE SUMMARY City Council Regular Meeting: May 21, 2019 AGENDA ITEM: Commendation for Attainment of Eagle Scout Rank AGENDA SECTION: Acknowledgement PREPARED BY: William H. Droste, Mayor AGENDA NO. 3.a. ATTACHMENTS: None APPROVED BY: LJM RECOMMENDED ACTION: Presentation of certificates of commendation SUMMARY Our community benefits from a large number of young people who reach the Eagle Scout designation. As the highest advancement rank for Boy Scouts of America, only about seven percent of Scouts complete the work to achieve the ranking, including completion of at least 21 merit badges. Eagle Scouts also must plan, develop, and give leadership to a service project for any religious organization, school, or community. The City Council tonight continues its tradition of honoring these accomplishments by commending two Rosemount students who achieved the Eagle rank. Weather permitting, they and the troop plan to leave from here to clean up the area near the Legion post in advance of Memorial Day activities. Sam Ericksen-Schultz partnered with Rosemount High School to enhance a public space adjacent to the main entrance of the school. The project included developing a plan to repair and refurbish a utility enclosure and designing a landscape blueprint. Once approved, Sam sourced the materials and led a team of Scouts and friends to complete the project. School officials are delighted with the new and improved space, which will only get better as the bushes and plants mature. Hundreds of students, staff, and guests pass through the main entrance every day and get to enjoy this area. Sam will graduate from RHS next month and attend Iowa State University to study computer engineering. Read Stanton partnered with the City of Rosemount to build three bricked tees at Rosemount’s Brockway Disc Golf Course. The tees provide a level, stable and clean surface for disc golfers to begin play. The tees add to the beauty of the park and prevent erosion. Once approved, Read sourced the masonry materials and tools and led a team of scouts and adult volunteers to build the tees. Over three weekends, the tees were installed. Golfers were active during the project. They were excited to have the new tees. Previous Rosemount Eagle Scouts built tees at Brockway. Read’s project bring the total to nine finished tees at the park. Drive by Brockway Park on a summer evening and you’ll see that many golfers will enjoy the tees for years to come. Read will study computer science at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities.
