SUMMARY
Our community benefits from a large number of young people who reach the Eagle Scout designation. As
the highest advancement rank for Boy Scouts of America, only about seven percent of Scouts complete
the work to achieve the ranking, including completion of at least 21 merit badges. Eagle Scouts also must
plan, develop, and give leadership to a service project for any religious organization, school, or community.
The City Council tonight continues its tradition of honoring these accomplishments by commending a
Rosemount student who achieved the Eagle rank.
Matthew Condon created a project to help students at Rosemount Middle School in need or who
are going through a crisis. He created cabinets stocked with basic necessities. Matthew earned all
137 merit badges currently available to Scouts. (Just over 400 people have completed the badges
since Scouting began a century ago.) He also received the Medal of Merit for saving a girl from
tragedy as at baseball game. Matthew will be a sophomore at Rosemount High School this fall. He
plans to attend college and serve in the military, followed by a career in law enforcement.
