BACKGROUND
As the Port Authority knows, the City Council authorized the hiring of an Economic Development
Coordinator as soon as possible. A job description was drafted and the position posted in a variety of
locations including the League of Minnesota Cities and Economic Development Association of MN
websites. Staff also spoke to peers and provided a copy of the job description asking them to pass on to
potential job seekers.
The first review of applications was scheduled for May 21 with 38 applications received. The applicants
were of varied backgrounds with all having some experience in some of the tasks but few having
experience in all job duties proposed for our position. All applications were scored based upon the
minimum qualifications for the position.
The top 18 scorers were invited to provide written responses to five questions, limited to 3 or less pages,
with a deadline of one week. We received eleven written responses and have offered interviews to seven of
the top candidates. The interviews will occur next week and upon the outcome of those interviews next
steps for selection will be determined.
