RECOMMENDED ACTION: Staff is recommending that the City Council receive the
quotes for the Schwarz Pond Park Nature Based Playground Project and award the
contract to Landbridge Ecological, Inc. in the amount of $53,875.
BACKGROUND
Staff recently received quotes for the Schwarz Pond Park Nature Based Playground project. Staff only
solicited quotes from those that have experience building this type of project. We asked for a price to
furnish and install the nature based play components. We also asked for a timeline as to when the contractor
could perform the work. Staff indicated to the construction firms that we had expected the project would
get started in late July or early August.
Listed below are the quotes we received:

Landbridge Ecological, Inc. $53,875 August 1, 2019 – August 31, 2019 or before
Blackstone Contractors, LLC $49,950 October 1, 2019 – October 31, 2019

Staff has worked with nature play design firm, Fern Firm, to help design the play features. Included in the
packet is a preliminary design that the consultants and staff created. The design includes several nature play
components and also includes a 65 foot zip line. The reason this design is being called preliminary is because
the project will be more of a design build once we start seeing what natural materials we have to work with.
The border for the project is stacked stone like what we have at Jaycee, Connemara and Ailesbury Parks.
The Parks and Recreation Commission reviewed the plans for the project at their monthly meeting in June.
Funding for this project was established in the 2019 Capital Improvements Plan.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff is recommending that the City Council receive the quotes for the Schwarz Pond Park Nature Based
Playground Project and award the contract to Landbridge Ecological, Inc. in the amount of $53,875.
Although their quote is for $3,925 more than the low quote of the two received, Landbridge can start
collecting materials for the project right away and would be on site August 1 and would be done with
project by August 31.
