ISSUE
In the 2019 and 2020 CIP budgets, funds are identified for the design/replacement the skate park at
Schwarz Pond Park. The current equipment is a modular set of metal ramps, boxes and a half pipe. For
the past couple of months staff has had signs posted at the skate park asking for user input on how the
park might be improved. The number one request is for a smooth concrete surface to skate on instead of
the asphalt pad which is there now. Staff is expecting that the future skate park features would be made of
concrete rather than metal.
Listed below are some of the comments staff has received:
• Smooth concrete
• Redo the surface so it's smooth so if they fall- it doesn't tear up their hands and knees, add a
phone for emergency calls, maybe add lights and water fountain or vending machine
• The surface needs to be smoother and we could use shelter from the sun on hot days
• Make it bigger with bigger ramps and make the ramps intermediate to beginner for skateboarders
scooters and BMX riders
• Change the surface to a much smoother more like side walk concrete and add a bowl
• Added a bowl and a mini ramp/half-pipe, in other words a smaller half -pipe for beginners and
change to concrete
• Replace the asphalt with concrete. also add a bowl, even though we already have a half -pipe
Staff expects to work with the Pillar Design firm to help create the design of the skate park. Staff is
planning to have a meeting in the near future to discuss the community input.
There is no action required for this item as it is only update on the future project.
