RECOMMENDED ACTION: Motion to accept donation in the amount of $250 to the Police
Equipment Fund and to approve the expenditure of these funds to purchases shoes/boots
that will be donated to kids in need at Rosemount Schools.
BACKGROUND
The Police Equipment Fund has been set up for the purpose of receiving donations that are designated for
the Police Department. Expenditures from this account are only made after approval is received from the
City Council.
In 2017 and 2018, the police department partnered with a Rosemont Area Hockey Association team to
help them complete a service project in the community. Specifically, the Community Resource Officer
met with the team to discuss needs in the Rosemount community and help them establish the goal of their
service project. After learning of kids in Rosemount schools who were often in need of more adequate
footwear throughout the year, the group decided to raise money to buy shoes and start the community
initiative called “Kicks for Kids.”
Recently, the Dakota County ELKS learned about the program and gave a donation to assist with the
efforts. The ELKS are part of a fraternal order that “spends more than 80,000,000 every year for
benevolent, educational, and patriotic community-minded programs.” The donated funds will be used to
purchase a wide variety of shoes/boots that will be given to kids as school staff identifies students in need.
The Council is being asked to accept a donation from the Dakota County ELKS in the amount of $250.
The donation was made to help pay for shoes and boots for kids as they are identified by staff within
Rosemount area schools.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends the acceptance of the donation and authorization of the expenditure.
