Donation Acceptance – Stormwater Mural Labor, Central Park.docx EXECUTIVE SUMMARY City Council Meeting: September 17, 2019 AGENDA ITEM: Donation Acceptance – Stormwater Mural Labor, Central Park AGENDA SECTION: Presentation PREPARED BY: Brian Erickson, PE, Director of Public Works/City Engineer AGENDA NO. 3.b. ATTACHMENTS: None APPROVED BY: LJM RECOMMENDED ACTION: Motion to accept a labor donation in the amount of $6,050 to the City of Rosemount for the painting of a stormwater mural at the Splash Pad, City Hall Parking Lot and on 145th St W. BACKGROUND During her time with the City of Rosemount, Green Corps Member Jes Braun took on several unique projects. One of those projects was an effort to educate the public regarding stormwater and how people can reduce pollution. This mural project began early, but with no respondents she continued to seek avenues to have it completed prior to her departure. Artist Laura Johnson responded to a flyer she was given and after contacting Jes, Ms. Johnson was selected as the artist for this work. She has completed murals locally as well as overseas, including one in the atrium at the Carlson School of Management. COSTS & FUNDING Funding for the paint and other materials came from a grant received from the Minnesota Freshwater Society in the amount of $125 and an equal city match from the Stormwater fund. Ms. Johnson performed this work pro bono and based on her current rate the estimated cost of that work is $6,050. RECOMMENDATION Staff recommends that Council accept this donation and recognize Ms. Johnson for the effort she put in to these murals.
