BACKGROUND
Following several retirements in early 2019, the Department initiated a hiring process to hire four police
officers. Officer Casey Murphy grew up in Credit River Township and attended Lakeville public schools
until he graduated from Lakeville South High School. After high school, Casey worked for Target for
approximately two years before deciding to join the United States Marine Corps in 2012. During his time
in the service, Casey worked as a Combat Engineer and was stationed in San Diego, California. While
serving just over four years, Casey completed two tours overseas in Bahrain, which is an island country in
the Persian Gulf. It is impressive to note that Casey took leadership roles with the Marines as a Squad
Leader, Fire Team Leader, and ultimately attained the rank of Sergeant.
Casey joined our Department in 2017 as a Community Service Officer. While working, Casey attended
Inver Hills Community college and earned an Associate’s Degree in Law Enforcement; he has plans to
complete a bachelor’s degree in the near future. Over the last few years with our Department, Casey has
continued to impress us and demonstrate why he should be promoted to the position of police officer.
Specifically, while completing his routine job duties, Casey went above and beyond to assist others with
training, he found ways to improve processes to make our Department more efficient, and he was always
involved in our community engagement activities even when not being paid to do so.
In his free time, Casey enjoys spending time with his family, watching movies, playing board games,
exercising, reading, and spending time in the outdoors. Casey’s parents both work as attorneys; he has a
brother that is a teacher, another brother that also served in the Marine Corps, and a sister that works with
non-profits.
Finally, Casey reflected with me recently about why he chose law enforcement. He described that after
returning from the Marine Corps, he realized that he wanted to continue serving his own community to
make a positive impact through a servant lifestyle. Casey mentioned he is excited to help the City of
Rosemount grow and develop during his career, and after watching him perform over the last two years,
our Department is very fortunate that Casey chose to serve our community.
We are excited are proud to promote Officer Casey Murphy to the position of police officer!
