Commendation of State Championship for Rosemount High School Marching Band EXECUTIVE SUMMARY City Council Regular Meeting: November 19, 2019 AGENDA ITEM: Commendation of State Championship for Rosemount High School Marching Band AGENDA SECTION: Acknowledgement PREPARED BY: William H. Droste, Mayor AGENDA NO. 3.a. ATTACHMENTS: None APPROVED BY: LJM RECOMMENDED ACTION: Award commendations SUMMARY The Rosemount High School Marching Band has set the standard for musicianship during the last several years. Once again, the band has achieved a state championship for its performance. More than 275 students participated this year in the marching band. Their directors instilled in them the qualities of performance and the discipline of carrying out a complex routine for this year’s show. During competitions, the band placed second in regional competition in Iowa, first in performance at the Minnesota State Fair, at Marshall, Minn., and at Eastview High School. Those victories led up to last month’s “Youth in Music” competition at USBank Stadium, where Rosemount was the state’s Grand Champion and also was awarded for Outstanding Music and Outstanding Color Guard. The band capped off the competition season with an 11th place showing at the Bands of America Super Regionals, bringing the best high school units from the central U.S. to St. Louis. Behind these substantial accomplishments are the support of band members’ families and of the administration of the high school, along with the generosity of contributors, who made possible activities that included a performance tour of Ireland last spring. The band is our community’s best ambassador to the world. Scheduled to attend tonight’s Council meeting on behalf of the students are Drum Majors: Claire Chumbley Jenna Gillich Mackenzie Gordon Kyle Springer and Johnathan Whaley Band Directors: Taylor Eliason Bo Hoover Scott Palmer and Leon Sieve
