The Parks and Recreation Department has many projects from 2019 that will be wrapping up in the spring
of 2020 and we have some new projects that will be starting in 2020. Listed is an update on the projects.
Family Resource Center Addition — The construction of the addition is moving along as planned. It
appears that 360 Communities will be able to move back in shortly after the first of the year.
Horseshoe Lake Park — The project for the most part is complete except for the brick around the shelter
columns and the overseeding of the park. These items are scheduled to be completed this spring. A
portion of the gravel trail will also be relocated due to the installation of the stormwater ponds.
UMore Ballfield Dugout — The installation of the dugouts is complete and the only work left to finish up
in the spring is some minor site restoration.
Recreation Center Planning — We continue to work on the site planning for the property at the corner
of County Road 42 and Akron Avenue. We also continue to have discussions with possible partners about
a possible partnership on operating the facility.
Skate Park Planning — The City recently held a second community meeting to share the proposed plans
of the skate park with the public. The meeting went well and we are preparing the bid documents for the
project.
Carroll's Woods Schwarz Pond Park Restoration — The restoration project has started and the
contractor has been busy clearing buckthorn. This spring work should provide a much different look to
the woods with the invasives gone.
Design of Phase 2 UMore Ball Fields — Staff will soon be asking engineering/architect firms to submit
proposals for the design of the phase two improvements at the UMore Ballfield Complex.
Flint Hills Site Improvements — A playground is the next site improvement that the City is planning for
the Flint Hills Athletic Complex. The playground border was installed with field improvements in
2018/2019. Staff will soon be creating a Request for Proposal on the project and will expect a 2020 install.
