RECOMMENDED ACTION: Motion to adopt a proclamation identifying the month of July as
Parks and Recreation Month in the City of Rosemount.
BACKGROUND
Since the mid 1980’s, America has celebrated July as the nation's official Parks and Recreation month. Staff
is asking the City Council to proclaim the month of July as Parks and Recreation Month in Rosemount.
The City’s parks and open space areas ensure the ecological beauty of our community and provide a place
for children and adults to connect with nature and recreate outdoors. The City’s park system consists of 30
parks totaling 542 acres. The City has 40 miles of trails and 61 miles of sidewalk that connect our
community.
The Parks and Recreation Department also offers a variety of recreation programming for all ages and a
variety of facilities. Whether it is a senior card game, safety camp or skating at the ice rink, staff in the
department help to keep people moving.
Over 70 regular, part-time and seasonal staff are employed by the Parks and Recreation Department. Our
staff understand that parks and recreation are vitally important to establishing and maintaining the quality
of life in our communities. They strive day in and day out to do their best and work with residents to help
them gain better access to facilities, parks, trails and open spaces.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends the City Council proclaim the month of July as Parks and Recreation Month in
Rosemount.
