HomeMy WebLinkAbout20200312 Special Work Session ProceedingsROSEMOUNT CITY COUNCIL SPECIAL WORK SESSION PROCEEDINGS MARCH 12, 2020 CALL TO ORDER Pursuant to due call and notice thereof a special work session of the Rosemount City Council was held on Thursday, March 12, at 4:00 pm at the Steeple Center, 14375 South Robert Trail, Rosemount. Mayor Droste called the meeting to order with Councilmember Weisensel, Freske, Block and Essler. Staff present included, City Administrator Martin. 2.a. 2020 Goal Setting City Council and staff discussed the 2020-21 City’s Goals and prior accomplishments: a. Review of 2019 Accomplishments b. Goal #1 – Grow the Organization c. Goal #3 – Grow Rosemount d. Goal #2 – Engage the Public e. Discuss Reaction from Process and Summarize After discussing progress and tactics inside of each of the above general goal categories, the Council provided the following overall takeaways for the upcoming two-year term within the confines of the current Goals. • Communications: Continued focus on increased communication efforts, in-light of the forthcoming vacancy in this position. Residents crave additional information and engagement with the City, and the progress made on this front must continue. • Retail & Commercial Site Visioning: Engage a consulting firm to assist staff & Council / Commission on illustrating the vision for what could occur at 5 key retail / commercial service areas. This will be utilized as a marketing tool to potential developers and tenants, along with a communications tool to resident to ensure them that we’re focused on these needs and to create excitement about what’s to come. • Community Events: Great strides have been made in recent years on establishing new community events to bring residents together and retain the small-town feel. Council encouraged staff to continue focusing on these efforts, including bolstering events such as the Food Truck Fest, Movies in the Park, Farmers Market, etc. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business to come before the City Council and upon a motion by Droste, second by Essler, the meeting was unanimously adjourned at 9:15pm Respectfully Submitted, Logan Martin City Administrator
