BACKGROUND
Staff has discussed moving forward with a shop local initiative for the Holiday Season. As the weather
begins to get colder, staff would like to promote local shopping, potentially as part of the Rosemount
CARES branding. The program would include restaurants, but also focus on traditional retail and
professional services. One focus of the initiative would be on purchasing of gift cards from various local
businesses. Staff will begin to reach out to businesses and gauge interest in participation. With the help of
the Communications Coordinator the event will be promoted on social media and emphasize COVID
shopping/dining guidelines. A general timeframe would be from mid-November (pre-Thanksgiving)
through the Christmas Holiday.
Staff has discussed the idea of an “Elf-on-the-Shelf” marketing effort where a Rosemount branded
Leprechaun rotates through participating businesses. Residents would be encouraged to find the
Leprechaun and post photos on social media to be entered in for prizes.
