SUMMARY
Congenital Heart Disease Awareness Week is February 7-14, 2021. Congenital heart defects (CHDs) are
the most common birth defects in the United States, affecting approximately 1 in every 110 (about 40,000)
babies each year. One in 4 of them will need surgery or medical intervention to survive.
Raising awareness about CHDs is important because it helps the general public learn about the symptoms
of CHDs and increases funding for researchers and medical professionals to continue their work to
improve the lives of heart patients.
The City of Rosemount wants to recognize and celebrate our amazing congenital heart defect (CHD)
warriors during Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Week along with promote awareness and educate the
public about CHD.
For more information on CHD, we encourage you to check out the following website:

PROCLAMATION
Whereas, the well-being of our children is of paramount importance; and
Whereas, Congenital heart defects are the most frequently occurring birth defect and the
leading cause of birth defect-related deaths; and
Whereas, it is crucial that parents, pediatricians, and all those in the health profession have
a greater awareness of the potential for congenital heart defects among
newborns and children; and
Whereas, Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Week provides the opportunity for families
and patients affected by these conditions to share their experiences and
knowledge with the public, so that we all may be made more aware of how this
defect affects all our lives.
Now, Therefore, I, William Droste, Mayor of Rosemount Minnesota, do hereby proclaim
February 7 through February 21, 2021 as Congenital Heart Disease Awareness
Week in Rosemount and encourage residents to join in the campaign to increase
awareness of this serious health matter in an effort to improve early diagnosis.
Dated this 2nd day of February, 2021.
