RECOMMENDED ACTION: Motion to Approve the Reappointment of Jim Voelker as
Assistant Fire Chief for a Period of Three Years.
BACKGROUND
The Fire Department Personnel Policy requires the appointment of an Assistant Fire Chief every three
years. Two candidates applied and were interviewed by a panel made up of two firefighters, the Fire Chief,
and City staff.
Both candidates interviewed well, and we are pleased with the talent available in the Fire Department for
current and future leadership positions.
Staff is recommending that the City Council reappoint Jim Voelker to the position of Assistant Fire Chief
for another three years. His current term expires at the end of this month. Jim has been the Assistant Fire
Chief for twelve years and a member of the department since 1997. He is well qualified to continue in the
position and serve another term.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that Council approve the reappointment of Jim Voelker as Assistant Fire Chief for a
period of three years.
