BACKGROUND
As the City Council is aware, Spectro Alloys received a violation notice from the Environmental Protection
Agency (EPA) last June. Since that time, Spectro has been working with the EPA to address the concerns
raised and to implement the necessary process / equipment upgrades to prevent future violations. The City
does not have an enforcement role on these environmental standards, and we rely on our partners at the
EPA and the MN Pollution Control Agency to ensure that facilities like these operate up to standard.
Staff was made aware this week that the process with the EPA has been finalized, and as such we’ve invited
Spectro representatives to the May 4 meeting to provide an update to the Council on the results of this
process and planned changes going forward.
