DISCUSSION
Spectro Alloys was present at the May 4, 2021 City Council Work Session to discuss a violation notice
received from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in June 2020. Since that notice Spectro has
been working with the EPA to address concerns and implement the necessary process and equipment
upgrades to prevent future violations. The City does not have an enforcement role on these
environmental standards, and we rely on our partners at the EPA and the MN Pollution Control Agency
to ensure that facilities like these operate up to standard.
The City was notified that the process with the EPA was finalized in late April which was the reason for
the Council update. Staff anticipates that additional meetings with Council, EPA, MPCA and Spectro will
be held in the future.
