RECOMMENDED ACTION: Motion to approve the hiring of Teah Malecha for the position
of Finance Director.
BACKGROUND
The City recently advertised for the position of Finance Director to fill the recent vacancy left by the
retirement of Finance Director Jeff May. Nine individuals participated in an initial interview, and three
finalists were invited back for a final interview on May 19, which included an informal meet and greet, a
facilities/City tour, and a panel interview.
The perspectives of all staff that participated in the process were discussed and considered. We were
fortunate to have had 3 wonderful finalists and having to pick between 3 high-quality people with varied
skill sets was not an easy decision.
Staff is pleased to report that Teah Malecha has accepted our offer to lead the Finance Department into
the future. Teah comes to us from the City of Farmington where she has served as Finance Director for
3.5 years. Prior to that she was the Finance Officer for the City of Excelsior, and also held finance roles in
Health Care. Teah is also a veteran who served a tour of active duty in Iraq.
Teah comes highly regarded from the City of Farmington and her colleagues, and will bring a wealth of
knowledge, innovation, and energy to her role. Teah will begin work on June 21st and we look forward to
welcoming her to our team.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the Council approve the hiring of Teah Malecha for the position of Finance Director.
