BACKGROUND
The Metropolitan Council (Met Council), as a regional planning organization, has provided
various tools, grants and assistance in the past to the communities in the metropolitan area.
One of those tools was developed to better understand the economic impacts of encouraging
water efficiency with residents. This tool assists cities in understanding how operation and
maintenance costs as well as capital expenditures can potentially be reduced through low
cost water conservation efforts.
DISCUSSION
As part of the city’s efforts to implement more robust water conservation measures, Brian
Davis, Met Council’s Water Supply Planning Senior Engineer, provided details on the water
efficiency tool that was developed. Since the city has been reviewing water supply planning
this tool can provide an important link in the capital planning process.
Dr. Davis will be present at the commission to discuss efforts in developing the tool as well as
providing a demonstration of the tool.
RECOMMENDATION
None, provided for information and discussion only.
