Replacement of 2.5” Fire Hose EXECUTIVE SUMMARY City Council Meeting: October 19, 2021 AGENDA ITEM: Replacement of 2.5” Fire Hose AGENDA SECTION: Consent PREPARED BY: Rick Schroeder, Fire Department AGENDA NO. 6.i. AT TACHMENTS: Quotes for 2.5” and 1 ¾” Fire Hose APPROVED BY: LJM RECOMMENDED ACTION: Motion to approve the purchase of 50 sections of 2.5” x 50’ hose and 11 sections of 1 ¾” hose to replace aging and worn hose. BACKGROUND The Council is asked to consider the expenditure of $10,011.92 for the replacement of aging and dated fire hose. The Fire Department currently is utilizing 2.5” double jacket hose that has served its purpose and in need of replacement. According to National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1961, Standard on Fire Hose, any hose that was manufactured prior to July 1987 needs to be removed from service to meet the requirements of the 1979 and previous editions of NFPA 1961. During our most recent annual hose testing, we were unable to determine how much of our 2.5” hose was manufactured prior to that standard. To ensure the majority of our 2.5” hose is up to today’s standard we will be replacing the hose sections in question. Along with the 2.5” hose, we would like to add some additional 1 ¾” hose to the supply to ensure we have enough hose on hand that would cover any hose that may be damaged at a fire scene. This will allow us to get a fire truck back in service without any delay while we wait for new hose. As part of the replacement process, three quotes were obtained from three different vendors for 50 sections of 2 ½” x 50’ and 11 sections of 1 ¾” x 50’ hose. The vendors included Macqueen Emergency Equipment with a quote of $10,011.92, Alex Air Apparatus with a quote of $10,219.00, and Clarey’s Safety Equipment with a quote of $11,305.00. All three quotes were for the same make of Key brand hose RECOMMENDATION The Fire Department is recommending the purchase of the hose from Macqueen Equipment in the amount $10,011.92. This purchase was listed as a CIP item for 2021.
