EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
City Council Regular Meeting: December 21, 2021
AGENDA ITEM: Designation of Polling Places for 2022
Elections
AGENDA SECTION:
Consent
PREPARED BY: Erin Fasbender, City Clerk AGENDA NO. 6.e.
ATTACHMENTS: Draft Resolution APPROVED BY: LJM
RECOMMENDED ACTION: Motion to approve the attached resolution designating the
seven polling places for the 2022 elections
BACKGROUND
State law requires municipalities and school districts to designate, by resolution, their polling places
for the following year. The designation must be made by December 31 for the following year and no
designation of a new or different polling place shall become effective less than 90 days prior to an
election. Upcoming 2022 elections include; Minnesota State Primary: August 9th and State
General/City Election: November 8th.
The proposed polling places for 2022:
Precinct 1: Rosemount Community Center, 13885 South Robert Trail
Precinct 2: St. John’s Lutheran Church, 14385 Blaine Avenue East
Precinct 3: First Baptist Church, 14400 Diamond Path West
Precinct 4: Rosemount Steeple Center, 14375 South Robert Trail
Precinct 5: The Well a United Methodist Church, 14770 Canada Avenue (East Side Gym)
Precinct 6: The Well a United Methodist Church, 14770 Canada Avenue (West Side Gym)
Precinct 7: Hosanna Church, 14401 Biscayne Avenue West
Important to note; city governments must reestablish all precinct boundaries within 60 days after
state redistricting is complete, or March 29, 2022, whichever comes earlier. This could be a routine
process of verifying that existing precinct boundaries meet legal requirements and then reconfirming
those boundaries. The city could also determine that existing precincts do not meet the requirements
in law, particularly if new legislative or congressional districts have split existing precincts. Cities may
also find this to be a good time to realign precincts to eliminate precincts split by school districts,
adjust, add, or remove precincts to accommodate population changes, or to change polling places.
Once precinct boundaries have been established, polling places will then have to be designated again
within 30 days of establishing precinct boundaries.
