Emmy Foster, Assistant City Administrator ATTACHMENTS: None APPROVED BY: ELF RECOMMENDED ACTION: Motion to Approve the Reappointment of Richard Schroeder as Fire Chief for a Period of Three Years. BACKGROUND Staff recommends the reappointment of Richard Schroeder to the position of Fire Chief for another three years. His current term is expiring at the end of March, and according to Fire Department policy, the Fire Chief is to be selected from applicants meeting the minimum qualifications for the position. He was the sole applicant for the Chief appointment in this process. In his application materials, Chief Schroeder stated “As I approach the completion of my ninth year as Fire Chief, I realize I have more to do. I look forward to serving another term to lay the foundation for the future of the fire department and the gravitation towards a full time Fire Chief position. I have appreciated the opportunity to serve the citizens of Rosemount as well as the fire staff currently in place. The vision I see for the fire department for the next three years is exciting and welcome the challenge to be on the forefront of that vision.” In addition to serving as the Fire Chief for the past nine years, Chief Schroeder has been a member of the department for 24 years. He continues to be a solid leader who has a tremendous work ethic and sense of judgment, encourages team work, and is well respected. It is thereby recommended that his assignment to the position of Fire Chief be confirmed by the Council. RECOMMENDATION Staff recommends that Council approve the reappointment of Richard Schroder as Fire Chief for a period of three years.
