BACKGROUND
In the Fall of 2020, the police Department opened a hiring process to fill three vacancies. Following an
extensive testing process that included several interviews, a scenario-based exercise, a written evaluation,
and a ride-along, Officer Paul Larson was selected to fill the first of the three vacancies and started with
the Department in January of 2021. His official swearing in has been delayed due to the pandemic.
Paul Larson grew up in Bloomington. Paul graduated from Bloomington Jefferson High School in 2005.
During High School, Paul participated in Hockey, Baseball, Tennis and Police Explorers. In the fall of
2005, Paul attended Minnesota State University Mankato where he graduated in 2009 with a Bachelor of
Science degree in Law Enforcement. During college, Paul was a member of the Law Enforcement Club
serving as the Vice President, The National Criminal Justice Honor Society serving as the treasurer and
enjoyed several intramural sports. Paul worked for Apple Valley Police Department as a Community
Service Officer for nearly 3 years before becoming a police officer in 2011 with Champlin Police
Department. Paul also worked for Woodbury Police and Cannon Falls Police Department as a Police
Officer prior to joining our Department.
During his time off, Paul enjoys going to the gym, walks to parks with his family, golfing, spending time at
the cabin and being perennially disappointed by MN sports teams. Paul is joined tonight by his wife
Shelby, son Caden and daughter Claire, along with his parents Tad & Nancy and his in-laws, Roger and
Kitty.
We are very proud and excited to welcome Officer Paul Larson to our Rosemount Police Department
family.

I, Paul Larson, solemnly swear that I will support the Constitution of the United
States and of the State of Minnesota, and faithfully discharge the duties of an Officer
of the Police Department for the City of Rosemount in the County of Dakota and
the State of Minnesota, to the best of my judgment and ability. So help me God.
