ROSEMOUNT YOUTH COMMISSION
REGULAR MEETING PROCEEDINGS
August 28, 2019
1. CALL TO ORDER
Pursuant to due call and notice thereof a regular meeting of the Rosemount Youth Commission was
held on Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at 3:45 p.m. at the Steeple Center, 14375 South Robert Trail,
Rosemount.
Commissioner Chair Bharath called the meeting to order with Youth Commissioners Armstrong,
Bauman, Chumbley, Gallagher, Henkemeyer, Kenninger, Laurent and Nozal were present. Council
Member Jeff Weisensel, Assistant City Administrator Emmy Foster, and Recording Secretary Sandi
Amundson were also present. Former Council Member Kim Shoe-Corrigan and Commissioners
Leholm and Ramesh were absent.
2. ADDITIONS OR CORRECTIONS TO AGENDA
None
Motion by Bharath. Second by Armstrong.
Motion to Adopt the Agenda.
Ayes: 9
Nays: 0. Absent: 2. Motion carried.
3. AUDIENCE INPUT
None
4. CONSENT AGENDA
Motion by Bharath. Second by Nozal
Motion to approve the Consent Agenda.
Ayes: 9
Nays: 0. Absent: 2. Motion carried.
5. OLD BUSINESS
a. Continued Discussion of Meeting Topics, Tours & guests
o Some ideas include tours of the Dakota County Courthouse; Water Tower/Pump
House; 360 Communities – (currently remodeling, may be a Spring option); Ice
Arena; The Rosemount; DCC; Police Department; and Park & Rec Department.
o Guest ideas include Erin Fasbender/City Clerk, and New Police Chief &
Commander; Stephanie Smith/Engineering Department.
6. NEW BUSINESS
a. Recap of Summer Events Discussion of Meeting Topics, Tours & Guests
i. Splash Pad Summer Celebration/Kindness Rocks
o The Splash Pad was a success, and the Kindness Rocks were a great idea, the kids
loved painting them. There is a garden in Central Park where the rocks are
displayed.
ii. Leprechaun Days Parade & Booth
o The booth was a success again this year and the Commissioners enjoyed greeting
the public alongside City Council members. Commissioner Armstrong did an
informal survey and asked attendees about interest in having hammock stands in
our public parks. The response was very positive. This may be something that the
Commission wants to discuss with Parks and Recreation Director Dan Schultz.
iii. Night to Unite
o The night was a success again this year. Commissioner Chair Bharath met
Representative John Huot and was able to discuss having a tour of the State Capitol.
The event will be scheduled in November. Details to follow.
b. Goal Setting
o Commissioners broke up into three groups to discuss ideas and goals. This topic
and ideas will be discussed at a future meeting.
c. Roundtable Discussion
o Everyone took a turn and shared their current and upcoming activities with the
group. Topics included trips, upcoming events, and the start of the school year.
7. REPORTS
a. Commission Member Reports
None
b. Next Meeting Date - The next meeting of the Youth Commission is scheduled for
Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at 3:45 p.m. at the Steeple Center, 14375 South Robert Trail,
Room 202, Rosemount.
ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business to discuss, it was moved by Bharath and seconded by Henkemeyer that
the meeting be adjourned. The motion carried unanimously, and the meeting was adjourned at 5:07
p.m.
