RECOMMENDED ACTION: Motion to support option _____ as the preferred option of
placing a trail along the Meadows Park section of Bonaire Path.
ISSUE
Included in this packet is a feasibility study for a trail along a small section of Bonaire Path. The Meadows
Park section is difficult to install a trail due to the wetlands on both sides of the road. The area east of this
section will have trails installed as development takes place.
There are three options for installing a trail in the wetlands section on Bonaire path near Meadows Park
and east of this area. Option A is to fill a portion of the wetland and build the trail adjacent to the road.
Option B would have an elevated boardwalk constructed through the wetland and connect to a trail that
would head east and finally Option C is to reconfigure the street and re-establish a narrower road with a
new curb line that would allow for a paved trail to be on the south side of Bonaire Path.
Included in the feasibility are the preliminary planning estimates of cost for each option.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff is recommending the Parks and Recreation Commission discuss the three options and make a
recommendation as to which option they feel would best serve the community now and in the future. Staff
is recommending that the City choose option A as a preferred method of placing a trail along this section
of Bonaire Path.
