BACKGROUND In 2022, the Parks and Recreation Department received a $15,000 Statewide Health Improvement Partnership (SHIP) Grant from Dakota County to conduct a feasibility study for installing a trail along a small section of Bonaire Path (Bacardi Ave to Auburn Path). This section is a difficult area to install a trail due to the wetlands on both sides of the road. The feasibility study has developed three options for installing a trail in the wetlands section on Bonaire Path near Meadows Park and east of this area. Option A is to fill a portion of the wetland and build the trail adjacent to the road. Option B would have an elevated boardwalk constructed through the wetland and connect to a trail that would go east and finally Option C is to reconfigure the street and re-establish a narrower road with a new curb line that would allow for a paved trail to be on the south side of Bonaire Path. Included in the study are the preliminary planning estimates of cost for each option. The Parks and Recreation Commission reviewed the Feasibility Study report on Monday, July 25 and they recommended that option A be the option used to design the trail improvements. RECOMMENDATION This item is on the agenda for discussion purposes only.
