DISCUSSION
The Environment and Sustainability Commission (ESC) developed an Education & Outreach Calendar for
2022. It is a working document that will be updated as the year progresses. Some outreach items will be
assigned to specific commissioners for completion, such as some of the blog posts. The intent of this item
is to review the calendar for updates and share ideas. Highlights are below:
1. August 1 blog post – organics drop site by Dakota County
2. August 22 planned blog post – Adopt-a-Drain by VRWJPO
3. September blog post ideas:
a. Switching to Solar/Wind/Renewables
b. Certifications for the Green Minded (e.g. Master Recycler, Minnesota Water Steward,
Master Naturalist, AIS Detector, etc.)
c. Proper yard waste disposal
4. Holidays/events of note
a. August 15 – Organics Drop Site Opens
i. Lots of education and communications by County on this
b. August 20 – Organics Drop Site Kick-off Event by Dakota County 9am-noon
c. September 5 – Labor Day
d. September 17 – Food Truck Festival
e. October 5 – Energy Efficiency Day
f. October – National Energy Awareness Month
5. Leprechaun Days Recap
6. Dakota County hosting We Are Water Minnesota October 13 – December 5
