REGULAR MEETING MINUTES
June 8, 2022
CALL TO ORDER
Pursuant to due call and notice thereof the meeting of the Technology Task Force of the City of
Rosemount was called to order on June 8, 2022 at 6:33 p.m. in the City Hall Conference Room.
Attendees included Task Force Members: Mohammad Khan, Steve Thoennes, Samuel Mwangi, Jeff
Feeder, and Tim Bornholdt
Staff present included the following;

• City Administrator Logan Martin

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Motion by Thoennes Second by Bornholdt
Motion to approve the minutes of the May 11, 2022 Technology Task Force meeting.

PRESENTATIONS
None
NEW BUSINESS
4.a Project Brainstorming
The taskforce held a discussion on which projects they would like to approach, and which projects
would make the biggest impact on the community. The taskforce reviewed the City Council’s
strategic goals and identified the ‘Connecting and Engaging the Community’ topic as the best fit for
their projects.
Taskforce member Kahn mentioned the idea of hosting a technology expo/networking event where
local tech companies, governments, and residents could gather to discuss tech initiatives and
projects. Task force members mentioned partnering with the Chamber of Commerce, Dakota
County Technical College, neighboring cities, and counties. Task force members also discussed

partnering with the Parks and Recreation Department to create community classes for topics such as
coding, building websites, 3D printing, and others.
Taskforce member Thoennes suggested that the City pursues hiring a consultant to do an IT
security audit. The task force discussed having IT staff attend a future meeting to further discuss
this idea.
Taskforce member Feeder mentioned current IT challenges within the Fire Department. Taskforce
members recommended that the group follows up on this discussion at a future meeting.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
City Administrator Martin updated the taskforce on progress being made with Bird micromobility
scooters. He mentioned that the City Council recently discussed the opportunity at a work session
and that they are generally supportive but have asked staff to further research current ordinances
and liability issues.
GIS Supervisor Menza updated the task force on current electric vehicle (EV) charging station
activities in the City. He mentioned that City attorneys have reviewed the contract with EMS
regarding the installation of stations around the City and that City staff is currently reviewing those
comments. He also mentioned that City planning staff is currently researching opportunities for
updating or creating ordinances that support the construction of EV stations in Rosemount.
GIS Supervisor Menza announced that the Technology Task Force will not be meeting in July and
that the next meeting is scheduled for August 10, 2022.
