RECOMMENDED ACTION: The Rosemount Mayor shall administer the Oath of Office to
Planning Commissioner John Powell.
ISSUE
Minnesota State Statute 358.05 requires that City officials, appointed or elected, must take and sign
an Oath of Office before transacting any business or exercising any privilege of office.
BACKGROUND
The City of Rosemount’s City Council appointed John Powell as new Planning Commissioner
effective August 1, 2022. The term will expire March 31, 2025.

I, John Powell, solemnly swear that I will support the Constitution of the United
States and of the State of Minnesota, and faithfully discharge the duties of a
Commissioner of the Rosemount Planning Commission in the County of Dakota and
the State of Minnesota, to the best of my judgment and ability. So help me God.
