HomeMy WebLinkAbout20220810Minutes TECHNOLOGY TASK FORCE REGULAR MEETING MINUTES August 10, 2022 CALL TO ORDER Pursuant to due call and notice thereof the meeting of the Technology Task Force of the City of Rosemount was called to order on August 10, 2022 at 6:38 p.m. in the City Hall Conference Room. Attendees included Task Force Members: Mohammad Khan, Furhath Arnob, and Steve Thoennes. Staff present included the following; • GIS Supervisor Aaron Menza • City Administrator Logan Martin City Council present included the following; • City Councilor Heidi Freske • City Councilor Jeff Weisensel ADDITIONS OR CORRECTIONS TO AGENDA Task Force Member Thoennes requested to add an agenda item regarding creating a question/evaluation set for evaluating potential task force projects. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Motion by Thoennes Second by Arnob Motion to approve the minutes of the June 8, 2022 Technology Task Force meeting. Ayes: 3 Nays: 0. Motion carried. PRESENTATIONS None NEW BUSINESS 4.a Technology Expo Task force member Khan presented a proposal to create a technology expo or conference. The goal of such an event would be to make networking among technology professionals in the southern metropolitan easier and establish Rosemount as a technology hub and leader in the region. There was much discussion regarding how to attract attendees, possible sponsorships, partnerships with DCTC and ISD 196, and presentation topics. Councilmember Freske suggested that the task force start with a smaller and informal program – “Tech and Taps” – where interested residents could join a meetup at local TECHNOLOGY TASK FORCE REGULAR MEETING MINUTES August 10, 2022 restaurants to discuss current tech issues and advancements. She noted that if the program grows, the task force may want to revisit the idea of creating an expo or conference. The task force decided to schedule their first ‘Tech and Taps’ event from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm on Tuesday, September 13. Action items are as follows: • Task Force member Khan will reach out to absent task force members to garner their support. • City Administrator Martin will confirm the availability of meeting space at North 20 Brewing. ANNOUNCEMENTS GIS Supervisor Menza provided updates on the task force’s recommendations on electric vehicle (EV) charging stations: • The contract for EMS/Carbon Solutions has been reviewed by the City attorney. City staff are now working with the attorney’s office to finalize the contract. • The Community Development Department is beginning the process of re-writing the City’s zoning ordinances. During the re-write, staff will pursue opportunities to promote the construction of EV charging stations in new developments. Menza also briefly mentioned that the Byrd micro-mobility solution, previously recommended for implementation by the task force, will also be considered during the zoning ordinance re-write. Citing recent problems with mobile device connection issues during Leprechaun Days, Councilmember Freske recommended the City consider expanding their public WIFI system to cover popular City parks and ball parks. The task force asked to be provided with an inventory of current WIFI systems available in facilities and parks and asked for this topic to be added to the agenda for September’s meeting.
