AGENDA ITEM: Swearing in of Firefighters Off Probation AGENDA SECTION:
Presentation
PREPARED BY: Rick Schroeder, Fire Chief AGENDA NO. 3.a.

RECOMMENDED ACTION: Formally swearing in firefighters who have completed the
requirements of probation
BACKGROUND
Over the past couple of years, COVID restrictions caused the Fire Department to delay formal swearing in
ceremonies that normally took place during a regular City Council meeting. The Fire Department would
like to have the City Council formally swear in Firefighters Kristina Horner, Joseph Foster, Reed
Drangstveit, David Hirtz, Jerome Newton, Greg Werner, and Joe Craft who have successfully completed
their probationary status.
As part of probation, they all have satisfied the training requirements that included Emergency Medical
Responder training, Firefighter I / Firefighter II training as well as Hazmat Operational Level training.
This group has represented the fire department with a high level of professionalism and integrity the past
couple of years and have full support of the department to formally be sworn in and recognized as regular
status firefighters.
RECOMMENDATION
The Fire Department is requesting City Council to formally swear in Firefighters Kristina Horner, Joseph
Foster, Reed Drangstveit, David Hirtz, Jerome Newton, Greg Werner, and Joe Craft.
