RECOMMENDED ACTION: Motion to Approve the Appointment of Tim Behrendt as
Assistant Fire Chief for a Period of Three Years Effective October 1, 2022
BACKGROUND
Our current Assistant Fire Chief Jim Voelker is retiring at the end of September. Three candidates applied
for the position and all interviewed well. We have a top-notch Fire Department and we are fortunate to
have incredibly talented people interested in leadership positions.
Staff is recommending that the City Council appoint Tim Behrendt to the position of Assistant Fire Chief
for a term of three years. The Fire Department Personnel Policy requires the appointment of an Assistant
Fire Chief every three years. The effective date of Tim’s term would be October 1, 2022.
Tim is well qualified for the position. He has been with the Fire Department since 2008. He has served as
a Captain for 5 years and previously as a Lieutenant for 4 years. Tim’s demeanor, skill set, and leadership
vision are the right fit for the Department going forward.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that Council approve the appointment of Tim Behrendt as Assistant Fire Chief for a
period of three years effective October 1, 2022.
