Manufacturing Month Proclamation EXECUTIVE SUMMARY City Council Regular Meeting Date: October 4, 2022 AGENDA ITEM: Manufacturing Month Proclamation AGENDA SECTION: Proclamation PREPARED BY: Eric Van Oss, Economic Development Coordinator AGENDA NO. 3.a. ATTACHMENTS: Proclamation APPROVED BY: LJM RECOMMENDED ACTION: Motion to Adopt a proclamation approving Manufacturing Month in Rosemount BACKGROUND October is Employment in Manufacturing Month, a State effort to promote and highlight the manufacturing industry in Minnesota. Manufacturing is a vital role in the state economy and the state is projected to have more than 75,000 job openings for manufacturing positions through 2030 as older workers retire. Average annual wages for workers in manufacturing are $74,626, 11% higher than across all industries in Minnesota. Locally in Rosemount, the City has actively been marketing our industrial sites and the Rosemount Business Park as prime sites for new manufacturing facilities. Expanding Rosemount’s base of high wage manufacturing jobs is key strategy to expand Rosemount’s economic and commercial base, while also helping to ensure residents can find jobs that allow them to afford to live here. As part of the Statewide effort, localities are encouraged to promote Manufacturing Month by promoting local business, training facilities and attending manufacturing events. Last month, the Port Authority invited Dakota County Technical College (DCTC) to give a presentation on their programing and training within the sector, as well as their partnerships with Dakota County businesses. They also touched upon ways that the City could partner and help support their programming and students with the overall goal of adding skilled manufacturing jobs locally. As part of Manufacturing Month, the State of Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development is encouraging local governments to help promote these initiatives by proclaiming October as Manufacturing Month. RECOMMENDATION The Rosemount Port Authority and staff recommend City Council approve the attached proclamation. 2022 PROCLAMATION CERTIFICATE OF ACHIEVEMENT THIS CERTIFICATE IS PROUDLY PRESENTED TO Mr. Name Surname SIGNATURESIGNATURE Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit, sed diam nonummy nibh euismod tincidunt ut laoreet dolore magna aliquam erat volutpat.
