PD-PW Campus Building.docx EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Environment & Sustainability Commission Meeting: October 11, 2022 AGENDA ITEM: Public Works Police Campus Project AGENDA SECTION: Presentations PREPARED BY: Nick Egger, PE – Public Works Director AGENDA NO. 5.a. ATTACHMENTS: None APPROVED BY: NAE RECOMMENDED ACTION: Discussion & Feedback Only DISCUSSION The design for constructing a new Police/Public Works Building has been proceeding over that past several months. As this point, staff has had several discussions with City Council regarding the scope, budget and timeline for this project. At the October 4, 2022 work session, City Council was provided an update which noted that the schematic design phase for the building is nearing completion, which will solidify the layout and size of the facility. The City Council has provided direction for the team to move forward with design of what has been termed the ‘Better +’ option (on a Good, Better, Best scale). The Better+ option will provide enough space for some future expansion to accommodate growth within both departments, whereas the Best option would have allowed for enough space for 20-years’ worth of staff and fleet/equipment growth. It is important to note that at present the estimated project cost of the Better+ scope is $57 - $59 million. Although this amount is likely to be refined somewhat as the final design comes together, this range is pushing up against palatable budget limitations for the City. The next step will be the detailed design process where the needs of each department are more fully envisioned and the outfitting of each space within the facility becomes more defined. As part of the ESC meeting, the design team, led by BKV Group and Oertel Architects, will provide an overview presentation of the facilities and grounds of the site, highlighting how the scope includes several best management practice features regarding energy efficiency, water conservation, and other sustainability and environmentally-minded features of the proposed campus. SUMMARY No action necessary, presentation and discussion regarding the PW/PD campus building.
