DISCUSSION
The Environment and Sustainability Commission (ESC) developed an Education & Outreach Calendar. It
is a working document that will be updated as the year progresses. Some outreach items will be assigned
to specific commissioners for completion, such as some of the blog posts. The intent of this item is to
review the calendar for updates and share ideas. Highlights are below:
1. December 30 blog post – Green Resolutions
2. February blog post – water and pollinator friendly yard plantings (Landscaping for Clean Water) -
Victoria
3. March blog post ideas:
a. Certifications for the green minded (Minnesota Water Stewards, Master Recycler, AIS
Detector, etc.)
b. Switching to solar or wind
c. Travel with bikes & EVs to reduce greenhouse gases
d. SWCD guest blog – water and pollinator friendly plantings & grants
4. Holidays/events of note
a. February 2 – Groundhog Day
b. February 2 – World Wetlands Day
c. February 14 – Valentine’s Day
d. February 20 – Presidents’ Day (federal holiday)
e. March 3 – World Wildlife Day
f. March 18 – Home & Business Expo 9:30 to 1:30
g. March 5 to March 11 - National Groundwater Awareness Week
h. March 21 – International Day of Forests
i. March 22 – World Water Day
SUMMARY
Assign education activities for March. Discuss planning for Home & Business Expo booth and assign
event captains.
