RECOMMENDED ACTION: Motion to purchase playground equipment for the Biscayne
and Claret parks from St. Croix Recreation/Burke as proposed in the packet
BACKGROUND
The long term Parks Maintenance Capital Improvement Plan includes funding for the replacement of the
playground equipment at Biscayne and Claret parks. The existing play equipment was installed in 1999 and
is scheduled to be removed in the spring of 2023. The new equipment, if approved, would be installed
soon after the anticipated removals.
On Thursday, January 19, staff held a neighborhood meeting for people living near Biscayne and Claret
parks and shared the proposals that we received for the two sites. The Parks and Recreation Commission
reviewed the information on Monday, January 23rd. The Youth Commission reviewed the proposals for
both sites at their meeting on January 25th. Results of the overall review process had the two proposals
from St. Croix Recreation/Burke coming in as the highest rated proposals for both parks. Those involved
in the review process liked the variety of equipment in the proposals.
A Request for Proposal (RFP) was sent out to local playground firms for the projects. Listed below are the
cost caps that were provided to the playground firms for each of the projects: St. Croix Recreation/ Burke
will provide the equipment at these amounts
Biscayne $65,000
Claret $60,000
RECOMMENDATION
Staff is recommending the City Council approves the purchase of playground equipment for the Biscayne
and Claret parks from St. Croix Recreation/Burke as proposed.
