ATTACHMENTS: Draft 2023 Blog Guidelines and Calendar APPROVED BY: BLE RECOMMENDED ACTION: Discussion DISCUSSION The Environment and Sustainability Commission (ESC) performs education and outreach activities throughout the year. As part of planning events for the year, the Commission develops a calendar to help guide activities. It is a working document that is updated as the year progresses. Some outreach items will be assigned to specific commissioners or otherwise require commission participation. Previous education and outreach activities have included blog posts, community environmental events, and special speakers. At its January Meeting the ESC discussed updating how the blog is formatted and used. Commissioner Johnson has provided the attached draft Blog Guidelines and Calendar for further discussion. The ESC typically participates in the following outreach activities during the year: • Rosemount Home & Business Expo • Leprechaun Days • Rosemount Holiday Tree Lighting Outreach resources available to the City include the following: city website, social media accounts, quarterly city newsletter, local government cable channel, and more. The City participates in the following joint outreach and education programs: Metro Watershed Partners (Adopt-a-Drain.org), Dakota SWCD Landscaping for Clean Water, Rosemount Farmington Hastings Solid Waste Coordination Program, the Wetland Health Evaluation Program, and more. SUMMARY Discuss education and outreach activities the ESC would like to spearhead in 2023. 2023 Conserve and Preserve Blog Calendar 2023 Change strategy to choose one action of the month to replace longform blog posts. Publish action of the month on the blog and share it on social media. Updated Guidelines for the Conserve & Preserve Blog ● Choose an action of the month ○ 2-4 sentences with an action residents can take part in ○ Include links to resources and where to go for more information (city, county, state, etc.) ○ Include images (or ideas for them), as appropriate ● Lead author drafts article and sends to Jane Byron for review ● Jane will route internally for review, as appropriate, and send it to city Communications Coordinator for city distribution on social media and blog.
