City Council Work Session: April 2, 2024
AGENDA ITEM: UMore Park Shelter Building AGENDA SECTION:
DISCUSSION - (LOCATED BACK

ROOM )
PREPARED BY: Dan Schultz, Parks & Recreation Director AGENDA NO. 3.b.
ATTACHMENTS: Concept Plans UMore Building APPROVED BY: LJM
RECOMMENDED ACTION: Discussion only.
BACKGROUND
As part of the UMore Ballfield Complex development, there are plans for a park building to support the
activities in the park (baseball/softball) and for the future pickle ball courts that will be built just south
of the complex. Staff have been working with the Oertel Architects on developing a couple of concept
plans for the building. The building will include restrooms, mechanical space and a flex space that can
be used to serve concessions from. This building will function much like the park building at Erickson
Park.
When the park project was originally developed, the City installed sewer and water pipes for future
utility connections. In the summer of 2023, the water and sewer services were brought past the
complex and are ready for us to connect.
Included in the packet are the two concept plans that have been developed for the building. The
concept plans have been shared with the Parks and Recreation Commission, RAAA and DCTC. The
groups reviewing the plans all preferred option #2.
The early cost estimate for either building is $1,300,000. As we further develop plans and
specifications, we can get a more accurate budget number.
Staff is requesting City Council feedback on the creation of plans and specifications for the UMore Park
Building option #2.
RECOMMENDATION
Discussion only.
