BACKGROUND
Dan Schultz, Parks & Recreation Director, will present plans for the future of playground equipment
and will ask for input from the Youth Commission. This will take place at the Public Works/Police
Department Campus trailer.

Call to Order
Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, a regular meeting of the Youth Commission was held
on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at 3:50 PM. in Steeple Center, Room 200, 14375 South Robert
Trail.
Chairsperson Julia Alex called the meeting to order with Commissioners Favre, Harvey, Johnson,
Pitzen, Raimondo, and State present.
Additions or Corrections to Agenda
None.
Motion by Alex Second by Favre.
Motion to approve agenda
Ayes: 7.
Nays: None. Motion Approved.
Audience Input
None.
Consent Agenda
Motion by Alex Second by Pitzen.
Motion to approve consent agenda
Ayes: 7.
Nays: None. Motion Approved.
Old Business
Recruitment Strategies – Discussed promoting Youth Commission through Rosemount
High School’s Irish Update broadcast. Commissioners read over a script prepared by
Deputy Clerk Ostroviak and gave feedback and suggestions. It was also discussed the
possibility of an informational session at RHS with a booth and Commissioners speaking to
their peers.

New Business
a. Leadership Lesson
Mayor Weisensel presented this month's leadership lesson, “Leadership is Like…”.
Commissioners shared their favorite leadership “shape” of which many chose the rising
spiral to signify passing obstacles. A wide variety of leadership styles were discussed.
b. Roundtable Discussion
Youth Commission members shared updates on school projects and their plans for
Spring Break. Mayor Weisensel asked for input regarding his State of the City
presentation and highlights. Also, City Clerk Fasbender gave an exciting update on
Talamore Park and how the input from Youth Commission, such as hammocks and a
putting green, is in the final plans.

a. Upcoming Events & Community Calendar
Deputy Clerk Ostroviak updated members on the application deadline, April 19, 2024 for
new and resubmitting Commissioners for 2024-2025. It was encouraged to attend the
Volunteer & Commissioner Appreciation Event happening on April 23, 2024 at City Hall,
4:45-5:45 PM.
b. Next Meeting Date – Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at the Public Works/Police Department
Facility 3:00 PM; Meeting with Parks & Rec Dept. to follow at 3:45 PM. Location TBD.
